General Information

All students can participate in EL Civics instruction and assessment. However, only ESL students in WIOA II EL Civics education programs can earn payment points for passing COAAP assessments. ABE, ASE, and CTE students can earn CAEP Immigrant Integration Indicator (I3) outcome for CAEP but not payment points for WIOA II. Task: 1

Description: Given level-appropriate resources from OUSD publications/college brochures students will complete a chart showing a level-appropriate number of courses that are needed for high school students to graduate. Chart will contain the names of the classes needed to graduate high school or enter college and be placed in the correct sequence.

Task: 2

Description: Content A (8 items, 16 points possible) All levels
Student will perform a level-appropriate role-play with the examiner who will take the part of a school clerk (BL) or Counselor (BH-A). During a simulated conversation, student will make up to 8 appropriate utterances, such as a greeting, stating their own name, stating child’s name, giving their phone number, closing and 3 other interactions like:

• Requesting to meet with the counselor
• Responding to requests for personal information (like giving their phone number)
• Asking for an alternative time to meet with the counselor

Task: 4

Description: Task 2 Content B (up to 7 items, up to 14 points possible)IL-A
Student will perform a level appropriate role play with an examiner who will take the part of a school counselor (see Task 2, Content A). Students will use level-appropriate clarification techniques as well as asking and answering questions of the counselor (examiner) about their child’s progress and take notes or remember the information supplied during the conversation. Student will make up to 7 appropriate utterances (based on level (IL=6, IH-A=7) such as introduction, request to speak to a counselor, and questions like what class should my son or daughter take next year etc….
