General Information

All students can participate in EL Civics instruction and assessment. However, only ESL students in WIOA II EL Civics education programs can earn payment points for passing COAAP assessments. ABE, ASE, and CTE students can earn CAEP Immigrant Integration Indicator (I3) outcome for CAEP but not payment points for WIOA II. Task: 1

Description: Present an Oral Report that Compares and Contrasts Political Candidates

Content (20 points possible)
After using level-appropriate resources to conduct research (optimally on the internet) on different political candidates and their platforms, student will give an oral report on two candidates’ differences and similarities in 3 areas, such as their (1) background and experience, (2) qualifications for the political post, and (3) stands on a current issue.

Visual Aid (4 points possible)
In class, student will make a relevant, appropriate, legible and neat (if handwritten) visual aid to support the oral report such as a slide presentation (optimal), poster, etc. Optimally student will make the slide presentation accessible (508 compliant).

Presentation (2 points possible)
Student will use effective speech and body language throughout the report and will refer to a visual(s).

Task: 2

Description: Participate in a Mock Election Exit Poll
Following a mock election, student will respond to 5 questions asked by assessor in an exit poll. Student will give at least 2 reasons, based on facts studied in preparation for the election, for each question.
Examples:
Who did you vote for? Why?
Tell me why you voted yes on measure S.
What are two positive things or two negative things about the election process in this (city, state, country)?
