General Information

All students can participate in EL Civics instruction and assessment. However, only ESL students in WIOA II EL Civics education programs can earn payment points for passing COAAP assessments. ABE, ASE, and CTE students can earn CAEP Immigrant Integration Indicator (I3) outcome for CAEP but not payment points for WIOA II. Task: 1

Description: Complete a Rental Application Form
Given an agency-created personal and housing history, student (IL-A) will complete an authentic rental application form.

Given an agency-created personal and housing history, student (BL-BH) will fill out an authentic form with a reduced number of sections that student needs to complete. This can be accomplished in a variety of ways such as:(1) giving BL-BH the complete form given to IL-A students and highlighting the sections BL-BH students need to fill out(2) giving BL-BH a reduced form which includes only those sections of the authentic application (given to IL-A students) that are assigned to BL-BH students.

Optimally, the application will be completed on a computer or handwritten, signed and scanned to make a digital document and sent to the assessor electronically.

Task: 2

Description: Call to Connect Utilities
Content A (7 items, 14 points possible)
Given a level-appropriate prompt, student will participate in role-play in which student will take the role of a new tenant calling to have gas, electricity or other service connected. Assessor will take the role of the PG&E or other service employee. Student will state/ask/answer up to 7 items such as stating the reason for the call, asking/answering up to 5 questions (BL/BH=3, IL=4, IH-A=5), and closing the call.
Example statement of reason for the call:
I need electricity. (BH)
Hi, I'm calling to get my electricity connected. (IH)
Example questions of PG&E employee:
1. May I have your name please?
2. Would you please spell your last name?
3. When do you want service started?

Student will write down date and time when the service will be connected and will show it to the assessor at the end of the role-play.
