General Information

All students can participate in EL Civics instruction and assessment. However, only ESL students in WIOA II EL Civics education programs can earn payment points for passing COAAP assessments. ABE, ASE, and CTE students can earn CAEP Immigrant Integration Indicator (I3) outcome for CAEP but not payment points for WIOA II. Additional Assessment Plan Tasks

Task: 1

Description: Monitor the Safety and Well-Being of Children
Student will be shown two pictures: Picture #1: a safe childcare environment, and Picture #2: an unsafe childcare environment. Student will analyze the pictures accordingly and write up to 5 descriptions (IL=3, IH=4, A=5) for each picture. The descriptions should address how each picture promotes a safe or an unsafe environment for children.

Examples of Safe Environment:
• Materials for distinct “centers” area are neatly stored and well-organized.
• Furniture placement allows freedom of movement which prevents injuries from running or climbing.


Examples of Unsafe Environment:
• Electrical outlets are not securely covered.
• An electrical cord is exposed which could cause a child to trip and fall.

Task: 2

Description: Evaluate a Child’s Progress
Based on an agency-created level-appropriate description of a child and his/her behavior, student, in the role of a childcare worker, will perform an authentic writing task by completing a progress report. Student will use either a standardized form or a form previously created by the class to describe a child’s:
• Abilities
• Interests
• Behavior
• Socialization skills
• Overall progress
