General Information

All students can participate in EL Civics instruction and assessment. However, only ESL students in WIOA II EL Civics education programs can earn payment points for passing COAAP assessments. ABE, ASE, and CTE students can earn CAEP Immigrant Integration Indicator (I3) outcome for CAEP but not payment points for WIOA II. Description: Identify a Business
Given level-appropriate resources, the student will choose an image(s) of a current, proposed, or possible future business.
Student will describe their chosen image by answering three level-appropriate questions such as:
1. What is the business? (Restaurant, landscaping, etc.)
2. What does the business do or make?
3. Why did you choose this business?

Task: 2

Description: Create a Slideshow to Describe a Business Plan
Content (20 points possible)

After doing level-appropriate reading or research (optimally on the internet) on a business of student's choice, student will create a slideshow or other digital presentation graphics to describe a proposed business plan. There will be at least one slide per question and relevant graphics to support descriptions. The report will be based on the answers of up to 7 questions (IL=5, IH-A=7) such as:
1. Summary: What is the business? What kind of business is it? What is the name of your business? (Restaurant, landscaping, etc.) What are you selling?
2. Company Description: What does the business do or make? Where is it located? What are the business hours?
3. Market Analysis: Why did you choose this business? Why do you think this business will be successful? How much will you charge for your service or product?
4. Marketing plan and sales strategies: How will you advertise your business? What are your goals e.g: financial or sales or expansion goals? How will customers learn about your product/service? How will your item be sold, e.g. do you need packaging?
5. Funding needs and financial projections: How many employees are needed? What are their responsibilities/roles/positions or job titles, hours, and wages? What resources do you need to start or maintain this business? $$, equipment, permits, etc.

Visual Aid (4 points possible)
In class, student will make a relevant, appropriate, legible and neat visual aid to support the oral report such as a slide presentation, poster, etc.
Grammar/Spelling (2 points possible)
Student will use correct grammar, structure, spelling, capitalization, or punctuation.
