General Information

All students can participate in EL Civics instruction and assessment. However, only ESL students in WIOA II EL Civics education programs can earn payment points for passing COAAP assessments. ABE, ASE, and CTE students can earn CAEP Immigrant Integration Indicator (I3) outcome for CAEP but not payment points for WIOA II. Task: 1

Description: Read a Syllabus (12 points possible)
Students will use an authentic class syllabus (online or on paper) to create a chart with up to 8 pieces of information (IL=6, IH=7, A=8).

Sample information:
- Class meeting times and location
- Instructor information (contact information and office hours)
- Course objectives
- Required materials
- Major assignments and exams
- Attendance policy (How many times you can be absent or tardy, what to do when you are absent, if/how assignments/exams can be made up)
- Grading policy (How assignments/exams are weighted)
- Class policies/expectations (Policies about academic integrity, late assignments, class participation, food, technology use, student behavior)

Optimally, the chart will be created on a computer and sent to the assessor electronically.

Task: 2

Description: Manage a Calendar (4 items, 12 points possible)
Using time management skills learned, student will use 2 shortened course calendars from separate syllabi to schedule 4 major assignments or exams (2 from each course) optimally on a month-long digital calendar and map out a study schedule to prepare for each assignment/exam. May be done on a paper calendar.

Task: 3

Description: Track Student Progress

Content A (3 items, 9 points possible)
Student will use a sample grading policy and agency-created information, such as scores on major assignments/tests and level of class participation, to predict the grades of three students.

Content B (3 items, 6 points possible)
After discussing/studying strategies to improve grades, student will list one appropriate strategy each hypothetical student in Content A can use to improve his/her grade. Strategies may be listed more than once as long as they are appropriate to the student/agency created information (make up missing assignments, doing extra credit, using success center to do extra study, working with a tutor.
